Cymadusa imbroglio Rabindranath, 1972 View in CoL
( Fig. 12–14 View FIGURE 12 View FIGURE 13 View FIGURE 14 )
Cymadusa imbroglio Rabindranath, 1972: 175 View in CoL –177, fig. 9.— Myers, 1985: 29 –33, figs 20–21 (key).
Type material. Zoological Survey of India, Calcutta, India (or Marine Biology Laboratory, University of Kerala, Trivandrum, Kerala, India). Not examined.
Other material examined. AM P51266 (male, 14 mm), AM P51265 (female, ovigerous, 16 mm), AM P51267 (male, 12 mm), Bare Island, Botany Bay, New South Wales, Australia, 34°00’S 151°14’E, A. Poore.
Diagnosis. Antenna 1 accessory flagellum with one article. Maxilla 1 inner plate with 5 slender setae. Gnathopod 1 with sparsely setose margins; merus produced to form a small, subacute distoventral lobe; carpus longer than propodus; palm acute, entire, without midmedial tooth, with posterodistal tooth defining palm, with 1 defining robust seta. Gnathopod 2 with long setae on margins, not plumose; merus produced to form a short, subacute distoventral lobe; carpus shorter than propodus; palm acute, entire, with subquadrate midmedial tooth, with small subacute posterodistal tooth defining palm, without defining robust seta; dactylus subequal in length to palm, tapering evenly, acute. Epimeron 3 posteroventral corner narrowly rounded. Uropod 3 peduncle with 6 distal robust setae; outer ramus without patch of small conical lateral denticles, with lateral setal fringe. Telson distally truncated, apical cusps small, with apical slender setae.
Habitat. Coral rubble and macroalgae.
Remarks. The specimens of C. imbroglio collected from Australian waters are similar to specimens documented in Myers (1985) from Fiji but differ in some respects from the type ( Rabindranath 1972). These include fewer articles of the flagellum of antenna 2; gnathopod 1 carpus is straight not rounded; and the uropod 3 outer ramus is shorter than the inner ramus. Also, several characters were not documented in Rabindranath (1972), so completely comparison of variation is not presently possible. Myers (1985) did not comment on the differences between his Fijian material and those originally described from India. Further study may show that the Indian Ocean ( Rabindranath, 1972) and Pacific Ocean ( Ledoyer, 1984; Myers, 1985; collections documented above), populations are not conspecific.
Distribution. Manoli Island, Gulf of Mannar, India; Fiji; Sydney, New South Wales; Western Australia; Tasmania.
