Boaedon bocagei Hallermann, Ceríaco, Schmitz, Ernst, Conradie, Verburgt, Marques & Bauer 2020

Material (four specimens): One adult specimen (MHNCUP/REP 164, formerly UP-MHNFCP-017399), collected from unknown locality, date unknown; one adult specimen (MHNCUP/REP 166, formerly UP-MHNFCP-017397; Fig. S62 View FIGURE S ), collected from unknown locality, date unknown; one adult specimen (MHNCUP/REP 167, formerly UP-MHNFCP-017400), collected from Novo Redondo [= Sumbe] [-11.20000º, 13.85000º, 11 m a.s.l.] Kwanza Sul Province, in September 1903 ; one adult specimen (MHNCUP/REP 168, formerly UP-MHNFCP-017402), collected from Bahia dos Tigres [= Baía dos Tigres] [-16.58559º, 11.82709º, 98 m a.s.l.] Namibe Province (in error), in 1903 .

Comments: Boaedon bocagei is an Angolan endemic species that is currently known from the coastal lowlands of the country, namely Luanda, Bengo, Zaire and Kwanza Sul provinces ( Hallermann et al. 2020). Ferreira (1904) reported adult and juvenile specimens of “ Boodon lineatu s” from “Novo Redondo” (MHNC-UP/REP167), “Lembu (Serra de Selles)” and “Cacullo” and later a specimen from “Rio Luinha” ( Ferreira 1906). Boaedon bocagei was recently described as a new species by Hallermann et al. (2020) in their revision of the Boaedon from Angola. The authors designated specimens MHNCUP/REP 166–168 from the Newton Expedition as paratypes, although considering them all to be from Novo Redondo, as Baía dos Tigres was in error as locality and specimen MHNCUP/ REP 164 likely corresponds to the published one from Rio Luinha, given its pattern ( Ferreira 1906).
