Material (two specimens): One adult and one juvenile specimen (MHNCUP/ ANF 174–175 , formerly UP- MHNFCP-017310; Fig. S15 View FIGURE S ), collected from Quilombo [-9.33333º, 14.90000º, 744 m a.s.l.] Kwanza Norte Province, in January 1904 .

Comments: Hyperolius benguellensis is a species that occurs mainly in western Angola ( Marques et al. 2018). Newton’s specimens are a few of the exceptions, occurring further north in Kwanza Norte Province, being the only published occurrences for “Quilombo” ( Marques et al. 2018). Ferreira (1906) cited a typical specimen of average dimensions (“ 1 ex. typico de dimensões medianas”) from “Quilombo”, matching MHNCUP/ANF 174. Hyperolius benguellesis’ taxonomic status was recently reviewed by Channing et al. (2013), using molecular data, who considered it as a distinct species.
