status

Naja nigricincta Bogert, 1940

Material (one specimen): One adult specimen (MHNCUP/REP 341, formerly UP-MHNFCP-017419; Fig. S69 View FIGURE S ), collected from África Ocidental [= “Occidental Africa”] (impossible to georeference), date unknown.

Comments: Naja nigricincta occurs in southwestern Angola as well as central and northern Namibia ( Marques et al. 2018). Branch (2018) refered to Angolan records of this species as Naja (Afronaja) nigricincta nigricincta , while Marques et al. (2018) followed Wüster et al. (2007) and their molecular results, using N. nigricincta . This specimen was not cited by Ferreira (1904, 1906). From the localities in which Newton collected, N. nigricincta is known from “Foz do Cunene”, Namibe Province ( Marques et al. 2018).
