Material examined: Holotype male: Victoria: 36°07’S 148°E, Murray River, 10 km NW Khancoban, 31.i.1998, Wells & de Moor, ANIC [Ag 006].
Paratypes: Victoria: Collected with holotype, 43 males 21 females, ANIC; Mitta Mitta River at Mitta Mitta, 23.iii.1988, J.E. Brittain, 9 males 13 females, NMV.
Other material examined: 69 samples from eastern Victoria, 7 from eastern New South Wales, NMV; 1 sample from the Australian Capital Territory, 2 samples from eastern Victoria and 5 from eastern New South Wales, ANIC.
Forewing length: Male 2.8–3.1 mm; female 2.9–3.4 mm.
Diagnosis: This species is closely similar to A. kimminsi , but males are distinguished by the sclerotised marginal band on segment X, which is clearly visible in lateral and dorsal views, and the gonopods in lateral view that are far stouter. Females are quite different from those of A. kimminsi , having abdominal segment VIII clearly divided ventrally as in A. cralus and other species.
Male genitalia: Process on sternite VI straight, angled caudad. Segment X obliquely truncate in lateral profile, dorsal and apical margins lined by sclerotised band. Cerci slender, closely adpressed to posterolateral margin of segment IX. Gonopods subquadrate, each with small black apicodorsal tooth on mesal margin. Phallic apparatus without parameres.
Female: Undistinguished, similar to that of A. cralus .
Etymology: Named after the Mitta Mitta River.
Distribution: Recorded from Victoria from montane areas as well as more coastal and lower altitude rivers than for A. kimminsi ; in New South Wales found from the southeastern montane areas to as far north as the rivers of the Northeast (e.g., Bellinger, Styx and Wilson Rivers).
