It is a genus that is found in the Paleotropical and Australasian Regions and consists of 26 species. Out of the 10 species whose host plant is currently known, nine of them are found exclusively on Myrtaceae (De Prins & De Prins 2011–2023a). Two species, M. flora (Meyrick, 1926) and M. noellineae Vári, 2002 , have been recorded in South Africa, but their host plants have remained unknown to date. In Madagascar and Mascarene islands M. eugeniella ( Viette, 1951) , feeding on Syzygium spp but not S. cordatum , is also reported while in the Seychelles M. parolca Meyrick, 1911 , with unknown biology, is found.
