Promalactis spiraliola Kim , sp. nov.

( Figures 1 View Figure 1 (A), 2(F), 3(F), 4(E,Ea–c), 5(D,Da–b))

Diagnosis

This species is externally close to P. infundibulina sp. nov. in forewing pattern, but can be easily distinguished by the dark brown labial palpus tinged with whitish scales on the basal and apical parts of the 3rd segment and the costal patch, which is larger and not connected to the medial band. The male genitalia are characterised by a triangular uncus with pointed apex; the gnathos is weakly developed and the aedeagus is largely developed.

Description

Adult ( Figures 2 View Figure 2 (F) and 3(F)). Head: Frons dark brown. Vertex white basally, tinged with dark brown; occiput brown. Antenna with scape white entirely, 2/3 length of diameter of eye; fragellum dark brown and white alternately dorsally. Labial palpus with 2nd segment yellowish dark; 3rd segment dark brown except white at base and apex, shorter than 2nd segment. Thorax: Thorax grayish dark brown. Tegula dark brown. Wing expanse 9.0– 9.5 mm. Forewing ground colour dark brown; three bands all white, edged with fuscous scales: subbasal weakly developed, almost straight traversed from costal margin to posterior margin near wing base; antemedial band oblique and arched toward wing base, traversed from 1/4 of costal margin to 1/3 of posterior margin; medial band short, oblique toward costal patch, not connected; costal patch at 2/3, large, semicircular; apical patch small; fringes grayish dark brown except brown near tornus. Hindwing more or less lanceolate; hindwing ground colour pale grayish dark brown; fringes grayish dark brown.

Male genitalia ( Figure 4 View Figure 4 (E,Ea–c)). Uncus triangular with pointed apex, slightly convex at sub-base, setose on lateral margin, longer than gnathos. Gnathos membranous, weakly developed, tougue-shaped, shorter than uncus. Tegumen rectangular from apex to sub-apex, gradually wider anteriorly to 1/2. Valva simple; costal margin concave before middle, gradually convex at 2/3, blunt apically, setose rarely; saccular margin narrowed developed, setose entirely; processus of saccular tiny spine-shaphed. Saccus wide at base, funnel-shaped, more than twice longer than uncus. Aedeagus slender, straight from base to 2/3, bent at 2/3, longer than uncus plus tegumen plus saccus. Cornutus 3/5 length of aedeagus, heavily sclerotized, dividing into two parts basally.

Female genitalia ( Figure 5 View Figure 5 (D,Da–b)). Papilla anales setose rarely, 1/2 length of apophyses anteriores. Apophyses posteriores bearing slightly broader tips anteriorly, more than 1.5 times longer than the apophyses anteriores. Apophyses anteriores bearing slightly broader tips anteriorly, twice length of papilla anales. Lamella postvaginalis moderate, round caudally. Lamella antevaginalis larger than lamella postvaginalis in width, wider caudally, gradually narrowed to antrum, wrinkled laterally. Antrum cylinder, 1.5 times longer than lamella antevaginalis in length. Ductus bursae membranous, coiled entirely, sclerotized area from sub-posterior inner margin to sub-anterior inner margin bearing several spines. Corpus bursae ovate. Signum absent.

Holotype

Male , Cambodia, Koh Kong Province, 25.XII.2014, Bae et al., gen. slide no. 9597/ S Kim. Paratype. One female, Cambodia, same locality, 19.XII.2011. S Kim and RK Duwal, gen. slide no. 9448/ S Kim.

Etymology

The specific name of the new species is derived from the Latin, spirali -(=coiled) plus – ola (=Latin suffix), referring to the coiled ductus bursae of female genitalia.
