Species Excluded from the Indian Fauna
The 27 species that are listed below have been recorded to occur in various interpretations of “ India ” in the past, but we don’t think that there are any current, reliable occurrence records for these species within the boundaries of contemporary India. We include notes to support our decision(s) to remove each species from the Indian fauna. We do not currently believe that any of the species listed in this section have reliable evidence of their occurrence in India, although future research may offer fresh proof that some of these species do, in fact, belong to the Indian fauna. The reasons for exclusion differ from species to species and include misidentifications, erroneous locality, lapsus calami, and historical changes in the boundaries of India etc.
