Astiphromma bicoloratus nov. sp.

( Figs 1B View FIGURE 1 , 8B View FIGURE 8 , 17B View FIGURE 17 )

Holotype. (♀) NW Vietnam: Tonkin, Hoang Lien N. R. 10 km SW Sa Pa , c. 1550 m, 22–29.x.1999, Malaise traps, C. v. Achterberg, RMNH´99 (Leiden).

Description. ♀: Body length 6.2 mm. Length of fore wing 5.0 mm.

Head. Flagellum very slender, with> 26 flagellomeres (tips broken off); 1 st flagellomere 8.3 × longer than wide, 1.7 × longer than 2 nd flagellomere and 0.88 × as long as eye; 2 nd flagellomere 4.6 × longer than wide. Temple strongly and roundly narrowed behind eye, dorsally c 0.3× as long as eye. OED 1.4 × and OOD 0.9 × ocellar diameter. Occipital carina absent medially. Frons with transverse microsculpture, strongly shining. Face ( Fig. 8B View FIGURE 8 ) without subantennal transverse carina, finely granulate and densely punctate, without central longitudinal ridge, width 0.9 × combined length of face and clypeus and 0.9 × eye length; inner eye margins slightly convergent ventrally. Clypeus slightly convex, granulate and with sparse fine punctures. Malar space 0.8 × as long as width of mandibular base, granulate and without groove between lower eye margin and clypeus. Mandible with two equal teeth. Genal carina reaching hypostomal carina away from mandibular base, both carinae low.

Mesosoma . Covered with dense short setae. Side of pronotum with rather dense fine punctures. Lateral lobe of mesoscutum densely but superficially punctate and ± shining; median lobe densely punctate frontally and finely rugose-punctate in apical half. Scuto-scutellar groove smooth, transversely oval. Scutellum weakly convex, without carinae or tubercle. Mesopleuron with dense fine punctures fronto-dorsally and almost smooth ventrally; speculum large, smooth. Dorsal end of epicnemial carina separated from frontal margin of mesopleuron. Metapleuron with dense superficial punctures; juxtacoxal carina absent; submetapleural carina unmodified. Area basalis triangular, with long apical stalk. Area superomedia ( Fig. 17B View FIGURE 17 ) 2.4 × longer than wide and 1.5 × longer than area petiolaris; anterior transverse carina (costula) reaching at 3/10 of its length. Area petiolaris 1.4 × wider than long. Hind femur 5.4 × longer than wide; hind metatarsus 0.5 × as long as hind tibia and 2.5 × longer than 2 nd hind tarsomere; hind claw with 4 long teeth, basal tooth longest. Areolet shortly sessile frontally; vein 2m-cu reaching its middle. Vein 1cu-a postfurcal by 2 × its width. Postnervulus intercepted basad its middle. Pterostigma 3.6 × longer than wide. Hind wing with 5 distal hamuli. Nervellus of hind wing vertical, intercepted in its apical 0.8; discoidella of hind wing indicated as a spectral stripe.

Metasoma. 1 st tergite 3.1 × longer than wide. Postpetiolus with distinct dorsal-lateral carina at level of spiracle, with fine sparse punctures, otherwise smooth. 2 nd tergite 1.2 × longer than wide. Thyridium roundish. Ovipositor sheath slender, densely pilose, 10.6× longer than wide, 0.6 × as long as hind tibia and 1.2 × longer than hind metatarsus, moderately narrowed in apical 0.3.

Color. Antenna brownish. Head black; palps, mandible except teeth, clypeus, malar space, face except brown dorso-lateral spots, spot opposite to antennal groove, and ventral half of gena cream-yellow. Mesoscutum black. Scutellum dark reddish. Propodeum in basal 2/3 blackish (with reddish central stripe), yellow laterally and in apical third. Prosternum, hind edge of pronotum, and tegula cream-yellow. Mesopleuron and metapleuron reddish-yellow. 1 st and 2 nd tergites black; 2 nd tergite with cream-yellow band in apical 0.2. 3 rd tergite brown; triangular basal spot, epipleuron and narrow apical band yellowish. Following tergites brown, with narrow apical and wide lateral yellow bands. Sternites and hypopygium cream-yellow. Ovipositor sheath black. Legs except cream-yellow fore and mid coxae and trochanters reddish-yellow; hind coxa with brownish spot dorsally; hind tibia with external brown stripe; hind tarsus brown. Pterostigma brown.

♁ unknown.

Taxonomical remark. Only two species of Astiphromma have been known from Southeast Asia so far: the Taiwanese A. ohharai Kusigemati, 1985 and A. confusum Kusigemati, 1985 . This new species differs from both species by its structure and color pattern: e. g. face paler and ovipositor sheath shorter than A. ohharai ; and pronotum, mesopleuron and metapleuron yellowish (± infuscate in A. ohharai and A. confusum ).
