Ligyrus patagonus Steinheil, 1872: 560 View in CoL Diagnosis. Tomarus villosus can be recognized by the antennal club longer than antennomeres 2–7; clypeus narrowed towards apex (base 2.5 times wider than apex); frontoclypeal tubercles cariniform; pronotal punctation minute and sparse; pronotum without fovea; pronotal tubercle small; males with the inner claw of the protarsi simple;
protibia tridentate, without additional basal denticle; apex of metatibia with 18–25 spinules; parameres with 2 acute ventral teeth, apices straight ( Figs. 36–37 View FIGURES 35–38 ).

Temporal distribution. February (2), June (1).
Distribution. Peru, Chile, and Argentina (Endr̂di 1985; Neita-Moreno & Ratcliffe 2017).
Natural history. Gutiérrez (1945) observed the mating behavior of some specimens of T. villosus in Chile, where the males flew searching for females and the copulation occurred below soil, in the same hole from where the females emerged.
