Zoologiia, 2, p. 133.
Type, by monotypy: Tanagra cristata “GL” = Tanagra cristata Gmelin, 1789 = Tanagra cristata Linnaeus, 1766 Loriotus cristatus ( Linnaeus, 1766)
Generic synonym: Islerothraupis Burns, Unitt & Mason, 2016 f
Zootaxa, 4088, p. 335
Type, by original designation: Tanagra cristata Linnaeus, 1766
Subsequently, Piacentini (2017) presented a rationale for treating the Blue-and-yellow Tanager, long known as Thraupis bonariensis ( Gmelin, 1789) , in its own genus instead of subsuming it within Pipraeidea , as Burns et al. (2016) and Remsen et al. (2018) have previously recommended on the basis of molecular data. However, Piacentini’s proposal of a new genus, Remsenornis , for P. bonariensis overlooked the fact that Wolters (1980:340, footnote) had already pro- posed a genus with Loxia bonariensis Gmelin as its type species: Rauenia . Wolters’ name fulfils the requirements of the Code ( ICZN 1999) for new genera proposed before 1999 and thus is available (see also Mlíkovský 2012). Consequently, Remsenornis Piacentini, 2017 , is a junior objective synonym of Rauenia Wolters, 1980 , and, if the Blue-and-yellow Tanager be classified in its own genus, it must be known as Rauenia bonariensis . Rauenia should be regarded as feminine in gender, in agreement with its latinized form.
