Chaetophora russelli ( Fiori, 1978) [ Figures 27A‒27F View FIGURE 27 , 28 View FIGURE 28 ]

Type locality. South Africa, Rivonia .

Type material. Holotype, deposited at BMNH “Holo-type // Holotype // S. AFRICA: TVL. Rivonia 9.xi.1968 M.I.Russell // Brit. Mus. 1972-258 // Syncalyptidae M.I.Russell det. 1974 // Syncalypta russelli g. Fiori det. G. Fiori // NHMUK011520816”. Paratype, deposited at BMNH “Para-type // S. AFRICA: TVL. Rivonia 9.xi.1968 M.I.Russell // Brit. Mus. 1972-258 // Syncalyptidae M.I.Russell det. 1974 // Syncalypta russelli g. Fiori det. G. Fiori // NHMUK011520817”.

Remarks. The internal contents and abdomen of the holotype and paratype are missing. This species may belong to a different genus from Chaetophora , because of the following characters: 1) six short spikes on the pronotum ( Fig. 6C View FIGURES 2‒6 ); 2) concave area extending longitudinally along middle of the pronotum ( Fig. 6B View FIGURES 2‒6 ); 3) coxal cavities appear slightly different in shape from those of Chaetophora morettoi sp. nov. ( Figs. 1D View FIGURE 1 & 6D View FIGURES 2‒6 ); 4) lateral sides of the elytra parallel, rather than rounded; 5) strong punctuation and rugose surface of the lateral parts of elytra.

Not all other genera within Syncalyptinae have been studied, therefore it is not possible at this stage to confirm the generic placement of this species.
