A rather scattered neotropical species known from Costa Rica to Peru, from Panama so far reported from Chiriqui, Coclé, Darién and Panamá provinces.

Fuscocephaloziopsis crassifolia (Lindenb. & Gottsche) Váňa & L.Söderstr. [= Cephalozia crassifolia (Lindenb. & Gottsche) Fulford ]

A widespread neotropical and Atlantic European species, from Panama so far known from Chiriqui and Darién provinces .

The taxonomy of Cephalozia is complicated. Recent phylogenetic studies ( Vilnet et al. 2012; Feldberg et al. 2013) provided evidence that Cephalozia form several independent lineages. Váňa et al. (2013) therefore transferred C. crassifolia to Fuscocephaloziopsis .
