A circumsubantarctic and pantemperate species with a few outlying occurrences in the northern hemisphere reaching Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic ( Engel 1980; Schäfer-Verwimp & Pócs 2009); Piippo (1992) reported this species from Papua New Guinea; new genus record for Panama.
