Metaphire catbaensis ( Thai & Le, 1993) comb. nov.
Pheretima catbaensis Thai & Le, 1993: 33, fig. 1 A; Thai 2000a: 308; Huynh & Nguyen 2004a: 115. Amynthas ? catbaensis— Blakemore 2007a: 21; Blakemore 2008b.
Type locality. Vietnam (Hai Phong: Cat Ba Isl. ).
Type material. SORC, Vietnam.
Records from Vietnam. Hai Phong ( Cat Ba Isl. ) ; Hanoi (Ba Vi NP) ( Thai & Le 1993; Huynh & Nguyen 2004a).
Distribution. Only known from Vietnam.
Vietnamese name. Giun cát bà.
Remarks. The species is similar to Amynthas leucocircus ( Chen 1933) in having three pairs of spermathecal pores in intersegments 6/7/8/9, pre- and post-setal genital markings in vii and viii, spermathecal ampulla heartshaped, prostatic duct S-shaped, and accessory glands mushroom-shaped. However, it can be distinguished by the presence of copulatory pouches, the absence of genital markings in the male region, prostomium prolobous, and diverticula ducts strongly twisted ( Thai & Le 1993). Blakemore (2007a) tentatively assigned the species to the genus Amynthas , as " species inquirenda ". Due to the presence of copulatory pouches, the species is better allocated to the genus Metaphire .
