Pheretima saigonensis Omodeo, 1957: 327 , Figs 2, 4; Thai 1983: 124, as a synonym of Metaphire bahli ; Nakamura 1999: 44. Metaphire saigonensis— Sims & Easton 1972: 239 ( peguana -group); Blakemore 2008b, as a synonym of Metaphire peguana ; Blakemore 2016: 17.
Type locality. Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh city = Sai Gon ).
Type material. Unknown.
Records from Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh City (= Saigon) (Omodeo 195 7).
Distribution. Only known from Vietnam.
Vietnamese name. Giun sài gòn.
Remarks. The species was considered a synonym of Metaphire peguana , but was restored to full species rank by Blakemore (2016). M. peguana and M. saigonensis are clearly different in the distance between male pores and spermathecal pores ( Blakemore 2016).
