Andalusia records

Authors’ material. Site 15: 4 larvae.

Previous reports. None that are valid (record of Carlsson (1969) from Sierra Nevada refers to P. latimucro , see above).

Remarks

The only location in which we have found this species (Site 15) is at the western end of the Serrania de Ronda and is a shaded, rocky, turbulent mountain stream near Puerto de Galis. Similar habitats occur in the Alpujarras on the southern side of the Sierra Nevada and it is possible that P. ru®pes occurs in this area also. However, as noted above, Carlsson’s record from Sierra Nevada is due to misidenti®cation. Examination of the larval hypostomium and of the pharate pupal gill con®rmed the identi®cation of the larvae from Site 15 as P. ru®pes; the hypostomium has the prominent median tooth and shorter almost subequal ¯anking teeth (®gure in Rivosecchi, 1978) and the gill has the usual 16 ®laments.
