Distribution. Widespread in Europe, Russia (European part) and Kazakhstan.

Status in CZ. Previously recorded from Aš (“Asch”) and Františkovy Lázně in western Bohemia by Kowarz (1884) and listed also in his checklist ( Kowarz 1894) and later by Vimmer (1913). However, it is absent from all modern checklists, starting with the preliminary one by Olejníček (1974) for unknown reasons (possibly by mistake, see below).

Ferdinand Kowarz sold his collections of Diptera at various times out of financial necessity, partly also to the English dipterist G.H. Verrall in 1880 ( Pont 1998), who mentioned holding of some specimens of T. divisus which “were in Kowarz’s collection” ( Verrall 1912: 59). There are presently eight specimens from Aš in the Verrall-Collin Palaearctic collection in OUMNH: 3 ♂ 5 ♀, bearing handwritten locality “Asch” and various dates in 1872, and one of them additionally with a yellowish identification label “ divisus Strobl ” by Kowarz. They seem largely to belong to T. divisus , and one of the males (“Asch 16 6.872”) with a largely disclosed hypopygium definitely belongs to this species (M. Drake, pers. comm.).

Ecology. Collected from Eleocharis palustris in Sweden ( Ringdahl 1953, as Scirpus ). The new CZ records were made by either sweeping E. palustris directly (Kamenný pond, isolated sparse stands) or littoral vegetation containing this plant genus.
