Material examined. Holotype. France, Dinard, Gulf of St. Malo, coll. Baron de Saint Joseph, No 20, 1911 ( MNHN TYPE 1475). Paratypes, France, Chaussey island, coll. Baron de Saint Joseph, No 25, 1899, 1 specimen ( MNHN TYPE 1476); France, Le Croisic, coll. Baron de Saint Joseph, No 20, 1911, 1 specimen ( MNHN TYPE 1474). Etymology. This species is named in honor of Fredrick Pleijel in recognition of his many publications on polychates.
Description. Holotype complete with 149 chaetigers, L10=4.0 mm, W10=1.6 mm. Prostomium conical, longer than wide, with pair of nuchal organs, ventrally with prominent buccal lips. Peristomium shorter than prostomium, rings of similar size. All parapodia well developed, first four smaller than following, distinctly longer in parapodia 110–146. Prechaetal lobe in parapodia 1–25 inconspicuous; from parapodium 26 until the end, rounded, increasing gradually in size but always smaller than postchaetal lobe. Postchaetal lobe in parapodia 1–24 well developed, digitiform, basally swollen, from parapodium 25 digitiform and always longer than prechaetal lobe ( Figures 5 View FIGURE 5 F–G). All parapodia with small notopodia, with notoaciculae. Composite multidentate hooded hooks in chaetigers 1–24, with long blade, with up to 7 teeth, proximal tooth largest ( Figure 5 View FIGURE 5 H); simple multidentate hooded hooks from chaetiger 25, with up to 5 teeth, proximal tooth largest, with short hood ( Figure 5 View FIGURE 5 I); dorsal limbate chaetae in chaetigers 1–28, ventral limbate chaetae in chaetigers 1–36. Aciculae yellow, aristate, up to three in anterior parapodia and one in posterior ones. Pygidium with two pairs of anal cirri of similar size. Mandible fragile, translucid, fused for about half its length. Maxillary apparatus with five pairs of maxillae ( Figure 5 View FIGURE 5 J); maxillary carriers shorter than MI, joined to base of MI. MI forceps-like, with attachment lamella. MII shorter than MI, with ligament, left maxilla with four teeth and the right with five teeth; with wide attachment lamella along 2/3 of posterior lateral edge. With broad strongly sclerotized connecting plate between MI and MII. MIII bidentate, distal tooth largest, with wide attachment lamella along entire lateral edge. MIV with prominent tooth and long base, attachment lamella wide along entire lateral edge. MV displaced lateral to MIV and MIII, reduced to attachment lamella.
Remarks. All materials were previously identified as Lumbrineris latreilli , they differ from that species mainly in the shape of MII and MIV, and by the presence of a broad connecting plate between MI and MII.
Distribution. Northwestern France.
