Genus Pambolus Haliday View in CoL View at ENA sensu stricto
Pambolus View in CoL s. s. consists of 14 species and is represented in the Afrotropical, Australasian, Neotropical, and Palearctic regions ( Yu et al. 2005). The females of all species in this genus are micropterous or brachypterous compared to macropterous females of the genus Phaenodus Foerster ; the males of both genera are macropterous except for Phaenodus achterbergi Belokobylskij (Belokobylskij 1986; Belokobylskij 1993b). The difficulty of collecting brachypterous, micropterous, and apterous females is likely the reason for the paucity of information about species in this genus and the small number of specimens in collections. However, the genus is likely much more species-rich than currently known. Two new species are described below from arid and mountainous areas of the Palearctic Region.
