Generitype of Carthamus Linnaeus (vide Green, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 179. 1929).

Current name: Carthamus tinctorius L. View in CoL ( Asteraceae ).

Note: Hanelt (in Feddes Repert. 67: 90. 1963) designated an illustration in Fuchs (Hist. Stirp.: 410. 1542) as the type, but as this did not form part of the protologue, it cannot be an original element for the name.
