Xenolecanium Takahashi 1942 View in CoL

Type species: Xenolecanium mangiferae Takahashi 1942 , by original designation and monotypy.

Updated generic diagnosis of Xenolecanium , based on the morphology of the adult female. Dorsal derm with sclerotised areas present around anal plates and at base of each stigmatic cleft.A cribriform plate of sclerotized closed pores present on mid-dorsum of thoracic region approximately dorsad to mouthparts. Dorsum with subcircular sclerotized areas, each with a concavity, often most abundant near body margin but absent medially between anal plates and cribriform plate. Dorsal setae slender. Dorsal tubercles and dorsal tubular ducts absent. Preopercular pores present or absent, when present located in a broad submedial band of small, generally closed, pores. Dorsal microducts present. Anal plates together quadrate, slightly pyriform, located at approximately one quarter to one fifth of body length from posterior margin, each plate with four setae on dorsal surface. Eyespots absent. Margins sometimes crenulated. Marginal setae slender, with apex of setae variable. Stigmatic clefts deep, each with a sclerotized inner margin and usually with 3 short, stout setae of subequal lengths. Ventral tubular ducts generally present in a small group on either side of vulva opening. Multilocular disc-pores absent. Ventral microducts few. Ventral setae mainly short and setose, but sometimes with a dense group of setae near anterior margins of anal cleft. Spiracular disc-pores mainly each with 5 loculi, situated within a stigmatic furrow. Antennae and legs much reduced, segmentation obscure. Legs each with a claw and usually with tibial and claw digitules visible.

Comments. It is here considered likely that preopercular pores are also present on X. mangiferae and X. takahashii but have been missed previously as they are rather similar to the simple pores found elsewhere on the dorsum.

With the additional three species described below, there are now five species in Xenolecanium .
