Genus Arvechambus Causey, 1963 View in CoL
Arvechambus Causey, 1963:66 View in CoL –69. Hoffman, 1980:108; 1999:149. Shelley et al., 2000:44. Shelley, 2001:243; 2004:200–202.
Diagnosis (adapted from that of Shelley (2004)). Large-bodied Parajulina with lateral and medial lobes on 8th sterna, 7th pleurotergites with indentations demarcating distinct lobes, overhanging sides of gonopodal aperture; posterior gonopod without true prefemoral process, with accessory prefemoral process. Anterior gonopod sternum small, rounded, and inconspicuous, without lobes or projections; coxae not fused basally, without dorsal "shelf," posterior syncoxal lobes/laminae, and lateral syncoxal processes, with strong lobes overlapping and obscuring parts of telopodites in anterior views; latter elongate, not clavate. Posterior gonopods positioned caudal to ag coxal lobes, leaning anteriad between ag telopodites; accessory prefemoral process extending directly ventrad or leaning caudoventrad; telopodite short, broad, and truncate, extending anterioventrad and terminating abruptly at peak of arc. Cyphopodal gynaspis prolonged, extending below ventral segmental margin.
Species. Two, distinguished by the configurations of the posterior gonopod accessory prefemoral processes.
Distribution. The southernmost counties of Georgia and the eastern panhandle and northern peninsula of Florida, extending westward to the Apalachicola River and southward to Alachua Co.
