Notes
Colonies laminar and unifacial to branched and bifacial; also encrusting. Surface covered in a series of concentric ridges that are either parallel to colony margins or contorted. Corallites 0.5 mm in diameter. Most abundant in mesophotic waters, where it forms plating colonies several metres long. Colouration shades of brown with white laminar margins. Pavona looks similar, but possesses thicker septo-costae. Small plates can sometimes be confused with Leptoseris ; however, the latter lacks the parallel ridges and has a bumpier, uneven surface (Fig. 105).
