Type locality. Cuba .

The close relationship between Calosopsyche and Streptopsyche was demonstrated by Geraci et al. (2005). The primary generic characters of Streptopsyche are exactly the same as for Calosopsyche . The only differences are found in strongly homoplastic, tertiary generic characters, being the development of the phallic apparatus into horny and spiny sclerotized endothecal process. These structures occur frequently and independently in several hydropsychine genera, and in species in species groups. Based on these endothecal processes we group the species into a separate species group within Calosopsyche .

The species of Calosopsyche inhabits Central America and the Antilles. Some species have process-like, enlarged preanal appendages. The foliate preanal appendages sometimes cover or spread over the segment and form a setose surface. As in Hydromanicus the possibly ancient state of a primary generic character is accompanied, except the proepisternal setal wart, by 4 additional primitive characters: (3) forewing crossveins m-cu and cu well separated, (5) hind wing crossvein m-cu present and clearly visible; (6) spur formula 244; and (7) hind wing forks 1235 present. The genus is characterized by 2 derived characters: (2) proepisternal setal wart absent; and (4) hind wing median cell open.
