Hydropsyche , genus cluster

This genus cluster has a worldwide distribution, except being absent from the Neotropical Region. It contains most of the genera in the subfamily: Hydropsyche ; Orthopsyche ; Caledopsyche ; Schmidopsyche , new genus; Hydronema and Abacaria . The species in the genera are characterised by having a proepisternal setose wart, and 4 apparently primitive primary generic characters, at least in Hydropsyche . The preanal appendages are reduced into setose warts or elevations. The species in the genera Hydropsyche and Hydronema are characterized by having closed median cell in the hind wings.
