Hydromanicus verrucosus , new species group
An important primary generic character for this species group is the presence of a swollen setal wart on proepisterna of all the examined species: H. demden , new species, H. klanklini (Malicky & Chantaramongkol) , H. krsamgin , new species H. ovatus (Li, Tian & Dudgeon) , except in H. seychellensis Ulmer. In the genitalia, the preanal appendages are simple. In addition, the apicodorsal setose lobe is present, forming a lobe or setose surface, which in the other species groups of the genus is frequently fused with the setose surface of the apicoventral setose lobe. The species group has the following character combination: (1) proepisternal setose wart present; (2) monolobed and short preanal appendages pressed or shifted to the median keel; (3) segment X robust, with concave dorsum; (4) very elongated, unusual rod-like apical lobe (some species); and (5) well-developed, sclerotized, endothecal process, and minute phallotremal sclerites.
