Hydropsyche trimonticola Mey, 1996a: 150 View in CoL .

Type locality. Vietnam .

This species is re-described from specimens collected in 1986 and 1987 at high elevations in Tam Dao in Vietnam. In addition to the characters given in the original description, we present several new ones. The forewing venation is atypical for the genus due to fusion of Sc and R before costa. This deviation is, however, not unique in the clade.

Male. Body and wings yellow with light pubescence. Forewing membranes uniformly light, without patterns. Maxillary palp formula I-II-( III, IV)- V, segment V as long as sum of segments I– IV. Head dorsum yellow, with 9 yellow setal warts. Swollen setal wart present on proepisternum. Pretarsal claws asymmetrical, laterally flanked by setal bundle. Spur formula 244. Protibiae with posteroapical spur equal to anteroapical spur.

Wings. Venation atypical for the genus. Forewing crossveins m-cu and cu separate. Forewing Sc and R fusing immediately before costa. Cu2 and A running separately before wing margin. Hind wing Sc and R meeting before costa about at crossvein r. Stem of M and Cu1 running closely. Median cell closed. Fork 1 present. Forewing length 7.4 mm, hind wing length 5.9 mm.

Male genitalia. Abdominal segment IX fused annularly, short. Median keel broad parallel-sided; cut apically; rectangular ( Fig. 194); dorsal surface granulose; lateral surfaces flat; anterior margin arciform; ventrum short, dorsum long ( Fig. 193). Antecosta well developed on both sides, each forming double line, narrowing dorsally before margins. External groove of antecostal sutures present. Apical lobe on posterolateral margins acute triangular ( Fig. 193). Posterior spine row continuous, absent on dorsum. Depression between segments IX and X short, deep. Body of segment X short, triangular in lateral view ( Fig. 193), quadrangular in dorsal view ( Fig. 194). Lateral setose areas (preanal appendages) located distally on segment, forming compact pale patch and distal scattered setae ( Fig. 193). Apicoventral setose lobes modified into pair of short protuberances with apical setae ( Fig. 194); curving mesad in dorsal view. Dorsal interlobular gap almost circular, encircled by apicoventral setose lobes. Apicodorsal setose lobe fusing into setose ridge, or crest, shifted anteriorly to intersegmental depression. Smooth cavity on segment forming large, shallow depression, dominating body of segment X. Short, wide, darkly pigmented, transverse suture running ventrally on each side from bottom of intersegmental depression; in dorsal view ( Fig. 194) crossing segment X obliquely. Longitudinal suture encircling shallow cavity ventrally on each side of segment ( Fig. 193). Coxopodites exceeding segment X, dorsal margins slightly sinuous; dilating slightly distally from mid-length; curving mesad in ventral view ( Fig. 195). Harpagones curving dorsomesad, parallel sided except terminal half slightly narrower ( Fig. 193, 194). Phallic apparatus simply bent, very flat, shortened, basal part curving ventrad ( Fig. 196); slightly broadening distad. Phallotheca with almost straight dorsum, except small, dorsal, concavity immediately before apex. Endophallus attached to dorsal wall of phallotheca, reaching bend of phallic apparatus, filling almost whole distal part of phallotheca. Phallotremal sclerites separated into pair of slender claw-like processes being falciform in lateral view ( Fig. 196); pincer-shaped in ventral view ( Fig. 197). Pair of sclerous endothecal processes present inside phallotremal sclerites; very thin; forming slender digitiform process almost parallel to axis of phallotheca in lateral view. Weakly sclerotized ventral process of phallotheca slightly shorter than phallotremal sclerites ( Fig. 197), forming simple lobe with small, central excision in ventral view.

New record: VIETNAM: Tam Dao , 1300 m, 14.x.1986, light [J. Oláh] — 4 males ( OPC, in alcohol) ; ditto, except 10.v.1987 — 2 males ( OPC, alcohol)
