The species in the Hydropsyche serpentina species clade have a phallic apparatus modified into a ring-shaped fusion of the basal and terminal sections of the phallotheca, forming a double-sinuate bend. The ring-shaped bend continues into the horizontal terminal section and is rounded angled, at least dorsally. The length of the bend is almost double the length of the horizontal, terminal segment.
