Type locality. Madagascar .

New records: MADAGASCAR: Fianarantsoa Province, 7 km W Ranomafana , 1100 m, Malaise trap in small clearing, mountain rainforest, 1–7.xi.1988 [W.E. Steiner] - 1 male, 1 female ( NMNH) ; ditto, except 22– 31.x.1988 - 1 male, 2 females ( NMNH) ; ditto, except 8–21.x.1988 - 1 male, 2 females ( NMNH) ; ditto, except 900 m, 20–31.i.1990 - 3 males, 1 female ( NMNH) ; ditto, except 8.–13.iii.1990 - 3 females ( NMNH) ; ditto, except 14–19.iii.1990 - 35 males, 95 females ( NMNH) ; 5 males, 5 females ( OPC) ; ditto, except 20– 24.iii.1990 - 39 males, 34 females ( NMNH) ; ditto, except 26–29.iii.1990 - 12 males, 14 females ( NMNH) ; 2 males, 1 female ( OPC) .

Remarks. The holotype of this species is weaker pigmented, and slightly distorted on the left side of segment IX. The new material was used to re-describe the shape of apical lobes on the posterolateral margin of segment IX. It is triangular, and not bluntly rounded in all the examined specimens. At the time of its description C. ranomafana Oláh & Johanson was found to be similar to C. fahara Oláh & Johanson. Cheumatopsyche tiokalamkita is more similar to C. ranomafana than C. fahara is. The female of both C. ranomafana and C. tiokalamkita were associated with the males and described below.

Female. Almost identical with C. tiokalamkita , new species. The main differences between this species and C. tiokalamkita are the more strongly elongated ventrocaudal lobes on tergite VIII, and uniform forewing membrane in C. ranomafana .

Body and wings dark brown, with darker pubescence; legs and antennae paler. Maxillary palp formula I- (III, IV)-II-V, segment V as long as sum of segments I–IV. Head dorsum dark chestnut brown, with 7 dark chestnut brown setal warts. Mesolateral warts dividing into row of 3–4 mesally decreasingly wide warts. Swollen setal wart absent on proepisternum. Setal wart present on precoxale. Pretarsal claws symmetrical, not laterally flanked by setal bundle. Mid- and hind-leg claws symmetrical. Spur fomula 244. Protibiae with posteroapical spur slightly smaller than anteroapical spur.

Wings. Forewing uniformly brown, with slightly darker veins and setae; longitudinal, median hyaline window present as single spot. Forewing crossveins m-cu and cu situated closer than length of crossveins. Sc and R separate at costa. Cu2 and A1 meeting before wing margin. Hind wing Sc and R meeting at crossvein r. Crossvein r located posteriorly of crossvein s. Fork 1 present. Forewing length 6.9 mm.

Spot-reticulated circular plaque present on both sides of membranous pleuron IV.

Female genitalia ( Fig. 357). Anteroventral corners covered by sternum VIII. Abdomen tapering slightly more in lateral than in dorsal and ventral view; sagittally narrowing posterad. Tergum VIII quadrangular, narrowing apicad, with elongating ventrocaudal lobes; conspicuous in lateral view. Wide, shallow sinuate mesal, dorsocaudal incision visible in dorsal view. Tergal surface smooth, produced, provided by tiny, closely set microtrichiae; setae absent, except on ventrocaudal corners. Tergite VIII producing into long, slender anterolateral apodemes. Pleurosternum ( sensu Denning 1943 ), or posterolateral apodeme ( sensu Schefter & Ward 2002 ) narrow, more sclerotized at anterior and posterior ends than in middle; parallel-sided, fusing to dorsal margin of sternum VIII; separated by well-developed suture on each side; scarcely setose on entire surface, more strongly setose posteriorly. Sternum VIII rounded quadrangular; with freely flanking, ventrocaudal lobelike corners; ventral plate ( sensu Nielsen 1980 ), or lateral plate ( sensu Denning 1943 ) constitutes deep, wide mesal, V-shaped incision. Lobe-like corners and distal margin densely covered by long setae flanking and protecting fused membranous sternal portion of segment IX. Internal surface densely packed with small hooks. Ventrocaudal lobes forming second support of copulation chelum of segment VIII; basis of sternum VIII devoid of setae. Tergum IX vertically elongate in lateral view; orienting obliquely to main axis of abdomen; narrowing ventrad together with lateral lobe on ventrodistal corners of segment. Narrow antecosta present on anterior margin, with visible dorsal acrotergite in lateral view. Dorsal margin rounded. Posterodorsal margin of segment IX forming small, rim-like lobe on both sides, with 3 long, stiff setae corresponding to almost pencil-like group of 4–5 usually closely set setae on dorsocaudal margin of female hydropsychines. Sclerotized ridge running along central part of tergum IX from apicodorsal corners and very small clasper receptacles to one-third the segment length; delineating shallow, flat, depressed distal cavity of clasper grooves. Depression on apicodorsal corners of tergum IX forming clasper grooves; anteriorly delineated by ridge with 3 setae on anterior margin, ventrally delineated by elevating lateral lobes, and delineated dorsally by dorsal rim housing clasper receptacles; elevating ventral part produced into small triangular lateral lobe ( sensu Denning 1943 ), or tongue-like lamellae ( sensu Nielsen 1980 ), with 2–3 long apical setae. Clasper receptacles small, sinuous. Distinctly marked suture delineating less pigmented, short tergum X along distal margin of tergite IX. Tergum X representing body of upper lip of atrium ( sensu Nielsen 1980 ) forming pair of foliate principal flat lobes covered by short setae nested in large wart-like alveoli, and tridactylate short lobes. Dorsal lobe largest; mid- dle process (cercus sensu Nielsen 1980 ) digitate, slender, armed with 2 apical setae. Dorsal and ventral processes blunt, with tiny, peg-like setae on dome-like alveolar membranes in deep alveoli, visible only at high magnification. Sclerotized, setose, lobes concealed under foliate, principal setose lobes of tergite X; foliate, small, flat; may represent rudimentary sternal lobes (lateral tergal plate sensu Denning 1943 ). Lobes connected by smooth, membranous, triangular, median body surrounding anovaginal dorsal part of opening, basally connected to lower lip. Lower lip of atrium ( sensu Nielsen 1980 ), or vulvar scale ( sensu Schmid 1998 ), representing sternal part of segment IX, visible mostly as distended bag-like structure, mostly covered by sternum VIII. Vaginal apparatus in cleared abdomen membranous; slightly sclerotized, sinuate, thin, strip connecting lower lip with sclerotized tergum of segment IX, as well as pair of slightly sclerotized plates on dorsum of lower lip.

Remarks. Segments IX and X slightly extruded with pincers from partial coverage of segment VIII for proper illustration.
