Type Locality: China, Yunnan, Kui-chiang-Salween divide at 28°N, 11,000 ft. (3353 m).

Vernacular Names: Inquisitive Shrew Mole.

Distribution: Yunnan ( China).

Conservation: IUCN – Endangered.

Discussion: Hoffmann (1984) included investigator in gracilis but on morphological and distributional grounds Wang and Yang (1989) and Storch (pers. comm.) concluded that both are sympatric in Yunnan and must therefore be regarded as distinct species.
