Description. Holotype male ( Figs 30–34 View FIGURES 30–36 ). Integument mostly dark brown; ventral mouthparts dark reddish brown; anteclypeus dark brown close to postclypeus, dark reddish brown on remaining surface; labrum dark brown on posterior third, yellowish-brown on remaining surface; scape and pedicel brown; antennomere III reddish brown on anterior 3/4, brown on posterior quarter; antennomere IV light reddish brown basally, reddish brown on remaining surface, except brown apex; antennomeres V–XI orangish basally, length of this area with variable length, only on basal fifth in some antennomeres about on basal third on other. Pronotum mostly brown with 10 darker maculae: one longitudinal from near base to apex, strongly arched anteriorly; two small, subelliptical, located centrally on anterior third; two somewhat small, subelliptical, located centrally on posterior third; one somewhat small, subelliptical, located on each side of posterior third, between lateral tubercles of prothorax and longitudinal macula; another covering mostly of dorsal surface of lateral tubercles of prothorax. Prosternal process and mesoventral process mostly dark reddish brown centrally, this area darker on mesoventral process. Scutellum dark reddish brown centrally. Centrobasal crest of elytra black; most of elevated areas of longitudinal carinae on elytra black; posterior half of elytra with oblique black band dorsally, not reaching suture and not reaching lateral curvature; posterior quarter with irregular dark area contrasting with surface around it; remaining surface; posterior 2/3 with dark spots on sutural area, contrasting with surface around them. Trochanters and base of femora dark reddish brown. Apex of ventrites 1–4 dark reddish brown.

Head. Frons densely, minutely punctate; with abundant grayish-white pubescence close to clypeus, forming triangular-shaped area with its inferior sides obliquely projected toward eyes; with abundant grayish-white pubescent band close to superior region of eyes; with abundant yellowish-white pubescence centrally close, from middle of area between eyes to vertex; remaining surface with abundant dark-brown pubescence, except glabrous median groove; with a few long, erect brownish setae close to eyes. Antennal tubercles with sculpturing as on frons; with abundant dark brown pubescence frontally, mostly yellowish-brown on remaining surface. Area between antennal tubercles with abundant yellowish-white pubescence, except glabrous median groove. Vertex with dense, oblique yellowish-white pubescent band from antennal tubercles to near prothoracic margin, apically following toward superior area behind upper eye lobes; with abundant yellowish-brown pubescence close to eye; central are almost glabrous, except glabrous median groove. Area behind upper eye lobes with dense yellow pubescence close to eye, this area widened toward lower eye lobe, sparser yellowish-brown pubescence close to yellow pubescence, glabrous close to prothorax. Area behind lower eye lobes with dense pale yellow pubescence close to eye, this area widened and yellower toward ventral surface, except yellowish-brown pubescent macula on center of posterior half; area close to prothorax glabrous. Genae with somewhat abundant yellowish-white pubescence close to eye, denser and yellow close to glabrous apex, except sparser brownish pubescence close to eye, following obliquely toward ventral surface. Wide central area of postclypeus with dense pale yellow pubescence centrally, abundant, brownish on remaining surface, partially obscuring integument, except grayish-white pubescence laterally; with a few long, erect, thick blackish setae interspersed, and one very long, erect brownish seta on each side. Sides of postclypeus glabrous. Labrum with abundant grayish-white pubescence posteriorly, glabrous anteriorly, except dense fringe of light yellowish-brown setae on anterior margin; with sparse, both short and dark brown and long and yellowish setae interspersed on posterior half. Distance between upper eye lobes 0.16 times distance between outer margins of eyes; in frontal view, distance between lower eye lobes 0.56 times distance between outer margins of eyes. Antennae 2.65 times elytral length, reaching elytral apex at posterior sixth of antennomere V. Scape with abundant yellowishwhite pubescence basally and ventrally, slightly sparser, yellowish-brown on remaining surface, except glabrous apical cicatrix. Pedicel with abundant yellowish-white pubescence, except yellowish-brown pubescence on dorsal surface; ventral surface with somewhat abundant, long, erect, thick dark setae. Antennomere III with abundant yellowish-white pubescence not obscuring integument, except brownish pubescence on apical dark region; with a few long, erect, thick dark setae ventrally, more abundant apically. Antennomere IV with abundant yellowish-white pubescence basally, sparser toward brownish pubescence on apical quarter; with a few long, erect, thick dark setae ventrally, more abundant apically. Antennomeres V–XI with abundant yellowish-white pubescence on area with light integument, brownish, with minute yellowish-white setae interspersed on area with dark integument; antennomere V with a few short, erect, thick dark setae dorsally and ventrally; antennomeres VI–VIII with a few short, erect, thick dark setae dorsally and ventral apex. Antennal formula based on length of antennomere III: scape = 0.77; pedicel = 0.15; IV = 0.86; V = 0.82; VI = 0.59; VII = 0.57; VIII = 0.57; IX = 0.54; X = 0.52; XI = 0.52.

Thorax. Pronotum with dense, longitudinal pubescent band centrally, from anterior to posterior margin, pale yellow on anterior 3/4, grayish-white on posterior quarter; with abundant pubescence between two longitudinal dark bands, pale yellow anteriorly, gradually sparser and whitish toward apex, except light yellowish-brown pubescence close to posterior margin, sparse dark-brown pubescence on anterior subelliptical maculae, and yellowish-brown on posterior subelliptical maculae; longitudinal and lateral dark integumental bands and maculae with abundant brown pubescence not obscuring integument, pubescence more yellowish-white on some areas; remaining surface of sides with dense yellowish-brown pubescence, except yellow pubescent macula on each side of anterior third close to longitudinal dark band, and yellowish pubescent band between dark integumental lateral maculae. Sides of prothorax with abundant yellowish-brown pubescence partially obscuring integument, except pale yellow pubescence close to prosternum and yellowish-white pubescence close to anterior margin. Prosternum with dense yellow pubescence laterally, pubescence slighlty sparser and more yellowish-white toward central region. Prosternal process with abundant yellowish pubescence not obscuring integument, except apex with slightly sparser and darker pubescence; narrowest area 0.42 times procoxal width. Anterocentral region of mesoventrite with sparse grayish-white pubescence, denser on center of this area, somewhat abundant whitish pubescence close to mesocoxal cavities, and abundant, yellowish laterally. Mesanepisternum with dense grayish-yellow pubescence, except yellow pubescence close to mesepimeron, and large maculae with sparser brownish pubescence inferiorly close to mesoventrite. Mesepimeron with dense grayish-yellow pubescence, except yellower pubescence close to metanepisternum. Mesoventral process with abundant yellowish-white pubescence; narrowest area 0.67 times mesocoxal width. Metanepisternum with abundant grayish-yellow pubescence. Sides of metaventrite with dense yellow pubescence posteriorly, paler, with irregular brownish areas interspersed anteriorly; remaining surface with abundant whitish pubescence not obscuring integument. Scutellum with dense, yellowish-white hourglass-shaped pubescent macula centrally; sides with sparse brownish pubescence. Elytra. Abundantly, coarsely punctate on basal half, punctures gradually finer and sparser on posterior half; centrobasal crest and elevated areas of longitudinal carina with abundant, decumbent blackish setae; area surrounding outer side of centrobasal crest with yellowish pubescence; area close to posterior margin of centrobasal crest with dense yellow pubescent macula; posterior margin of some elevated area of longitudinal carina with small yellow pubescent macula; area close to posterior dark oblique band on posterior half with dense yellow pubescence; dark sutural spots with brown pubescence; sutural region with whitish pubescence between dark spots; remaining anterior 2/3 of dorsal surface with irregular maculae yellowish-white maculae, larger most and more conspicuous located on sides near middle, and irregular areas with both yellowish-white, yellowish-brown, and whitish pubescence, denser on some areas, sparser on other; area between epipleural margin and humeral carina mostly with yellowish-brown pubescence, except yellowish pubescence close to humerus; posterior third mostly with yellowishwhite pubescence dorsally, denser than on most areas of anterior 2/3, more light yellowish brown laterally, except dark integumental areas with sparser brownish pubescence. Legs. Femoral peduncle and base of femoral peduncle with abundant grayish-white pubescence not obscuring integument; remaining surface of ventral surface of femoral club with abundant grayish-white pubescence not obscuring integument; dorsal surface and outer superior region of pro- and metafemoral clubs with dense, wide yellow pubescence band about middle and narrow yellow pubescent band on entire apex; dorsal surface and outer superior region of mesofemoral club with dense yellow pubescence maculae; inner side of femoral clubs with dense yellowish-white pubescence; remaining surface of dorsal surface of femoral clubs with brownish pubescence. Protibiae with yellowish pubescence basally on dorsal and lateral surfaces, pale-yellow pubescence dorsally and laterally before apex, and abundant whitish pubescence ventrally, except posterior third with dense, bristly, dark yellowish-brown pubescence; remaining surface with dark yellowish-brown pubescence not obscuring integument. Mesotibiae with yellowish pubescence on dorsal base, yellow pubescence dorsally and on superior region of sides about middle, abundant whitish pubescence on anterior 2/3 of ventral surface, and abundant, bristly dark-brown pubescence on posterior third of ventral surface; remaining dorsal surface and sides of anterior 2/3 with brownish pubescence not obscuring integument; posterior third of dorsal surface with abundant, bristly, tick dark brown setae. Metatibiae with abundant whitish pubescence on anterior 2/3 of ventral surface, basal third of dorsal surface, and most of sides of anterior 2/3, yellow pubescence about middle of dorsal surface, brownish pubescence on remaining dorsal surface, and bristly yellowish- brown pubescence on posterior third of ventral surface; with short, erect dark setae interspersed on posterior 2/3.

Abdomen. Ventrites 1–4 with abundant whitish pubescence not obscuring integument, except sides of posterior region with dense yellow pubescence, and glabrous apex of central region. Ventrite 5 with abundant whitish pubescence, not obscuring integument, pubescence slightly more yellowish on posterocentral third.

Female ( Figs 35–36 View FIGURES 30–36 ). Similar to male, differing by generic features and antennae 2.4 times elytral length, reaching elytral apex at basal third of antennomere VI (only one female measured).

Variation in paratypes. Antennomeres III–IV light reddish brown on basal third, gradually darkened toward brown apical quarter; longitudinal dark maculae and anterocentral subelliptical maculae on pronotum fused, forming M-shaped macula; trochanters and femora entirely dark brown; oblique pubescent band on inferior sides of frons pale yellow; central area of vertex with sparse grayish-white pubescence; brownish pubescent macula on mesanepisternum abundant; mesepimeron with grayish-white pubescence; dark integumental areas on posterior third of elytra partially surrounded by yellowish-brown pubescence.

Etymology. Latin, “personatus” (masked); alluding to the general appearance resembling some masks from ancient cultures.

Remarks. The general appearance of the new species resembles that of some species of Oedopeza Audinet- Serville, 1835.
