Remarks.
This is another completely-pubescent South American taxon belonging to the genus Megasoma . It occurs in northeastern Argentina (Misiones region), southeastern Paraguay, and in eastern and southern Brazil ( Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, Paraná, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul states). It is interesting to note that in the first two Brazilian states, in the region of Teresópolis, RJ, it is sympatric with Megasoma typhon typhon . The distinctive characters are the cephalic horn and the sickle-shaped thoracic horn, both short with a very wide bifurcated apex.
