Diagnosis

The large size, wide separation of the metacoxae and form of the genitalia distinguish this species.

Etymology

From the Latin ‘ plaga ’, meaning ‘trap’, and referring to the similarity of the spermatheca to a plumber’s trap.

Type material

Holotype MALAYSIA-BORNEO • ♀; Sarawak, 4 th Division, Gunung Mulu National Park ; May–Aug. 1978; P.M. Hammond and J.E. Marshall leg., BM 1978-49 ; comp 5, alluvial forest litter; BMNH.

Paratype MALAYSIA-BORNEO • 1 ♂; same data as for holotype; BMNH.

Description

SIZE. Habitus ( Fig. 22A View Fig ), length 0.85 mm.

COLOUR. Dark brown, head almost black, elytra yellowish through transmitted light, covered with fine pale pubescence.

HEAD. Distance across eyes 0.34 mm; antennomeres III–XI, length 0.33 mm; mentum and submentum chaetotaxy ( Fig. 22D View Fig ).

PRONOTUM. Length 0.33 mm, width 0.57 mm, sides strongly rounded in posterior half, angles right angled (viewed from 45°), posterior margin strongly sinuate.

ELYTRA. Length 0.50 mm, width 0.55 mm, with short epipleura in anterior half.

VENTRUM. Mesoventrum reticulate, without pubescence, keel obliterated before reaching collar anteriorly, tapering posteriorly to a fine point between the mesocoxae ( Fig. 22G View Fig ). Metaventrum reticulate, pubescent, posterior margin between metacoxae wide, ± ¼ the width of the sclerite, with two sharp points at corners ( Fig. 22G View Fig ).

ABDOMEN. Pygidium with two teeth and apical point, anterior margin with row of setae.

FEMALE GENITALIA. Spermatheca ( Fig. 22B View Fig ).

MALE GENITALIA. Aedeagus ( Fig. 22C View Fig ).
