Bostrychia radicans (Montagne) Montagne
Desikachary et al. 1998, Part II B, p. 315; Kannan & Thangaradjou 1998. p. 32; West & Ganesan (pers. observ. made in Nov. 2003); Nedumaran & Perumal 2009, p. 203.
Taxonomic synonym: Bostrychia rivularis Harvey : Martens 1869a, p. 234; Zeller 1873, p. 193. (as Bostrychia intricate ?); Prain 1905, p. 332; Biswas 1926, p. 35.
Distribution in India: Tamil Nadu (Pitchavaram mangrove forests on Rhizophora roots in the small island near the coast. Feb,); West Bengal. (Salt Lakes, near Sealdha, Kolkata)
Notes: We follow Silva et al. (1996) in considering B. rivularis as a synonym of B. radicans . West & Zuccarello (pers. comm.) had observed that the Indian material of B. radicans had tetrasporophytes in the field, but tetrasprangia were abortive in laboratory culture. Bostrychia radicans is a widely distributed species occurring mostly on mangrove roots, in marine environments and occasionally in freshwater habitats as well (Necchi 2016). The identity of B. radicans with its close affinity to B. moritiziana is still not clearly demarcated.
