Post 1936. p. 20; West & Ganesan. (pers. obser. made in nov.2004)
Distribution in India: Tamil Nadu (Pitchavaram mangrove forests); West Bengal: (Botanical Gardens, Kolkatta).
Notes: According to Ott (2009, p.730), there are no authentic records for the occurrence of this species in purely freshwater habitats. It is a species distributed throughout the world, but restricted mostly to mangroves. This taxon was referred for a long time to the genus Stichtosiphonia as S. kelanesis , until Zuccarello & West (2006) showed it is referrable to Bostrychia based on both morphology and molecular data. Collections of this species were made by West & Ganesan (pers. obser.) growing as small brownish clumps in the moist terrestrial soil far removed from the tidal line at Pitchavaram mangrove forests. Pending comparative molecular data of the Indian specimens with S. kelanensis from other latitudes, the Indian records are provisionally treated as Bostrychia kelanensis .
