Distribution in India: Manipur (Chapki river, Thoubal district, Imphal).
Notes: Populations of Lemanea specimens in India have been reported only from Manipur state and from five different rivers: Chapki, Imphal, Iril, Manipur and Thoubal. Synopsis of references (1973–2014) for the five specific epithets applied to these populations is given by Ganesan et al. (2015). Lemanea populations in the Manipur state constitute not only an important source of dietary supplement, but also used as medicines for several health problems by the local tribal populations. Since the populations are seasonal and occur only during the colder months of the year (November to February), a detailed study of Lemanea plants from other areas of the state is necessary to learn about the presence of more than one species.
