Distribution in India: Manipur: (in swiftly flowing rivers of Imphal and Chakpi at Imphal; Sawombung bridge in Iril river, Dec. to Feb.).
Notes: Ganesan et al. (2015) showed that the binomial L. mamillosa was misapplied by Khan (1973). Khan who stated that “from the outer ends of the T shaped cells, ascending and descending lateral filaments were formed.” More importantly, Khan (1973, p. 173, Fig. B) misjudged large carposporangia with numerous, small, colourless spheres and a large central nucleus as spermatangia. Gonimoblast filaments of L. mamillosa , as currently circumscribed, are several and branched ( Atkinson 1890; see also Kumano 2002, pl. 159, fig. 60). The Indian records of “ L. mamillosa ” should be probably considered as L. manipurensis .
