Bhosale et al. 2012, p. 4, fig. 2. A–H; Singh & Gupta 2010, p. 51; Pl. 3 a, b; Gupta & Singh 2012, p. 23, Pl. 3 a, b.
Distribution in India: Manipur (Chapki and Manipur rivers at Nunglap Likla, Nungmaijam and Yenanghousi in Thoubal district; Serou to Sugnu area in Chapkri river, Nov. to Jan.; Thoubal river, Thoubal bridge, Dec. to Feb.)
Notes: A very widely distributed species, apparently unknown in the tropics, L. fluviatilis , as currently circumscribed, has characteristic features like long, unbranched or well-branched gonimoblast filaments with numerous carposporangia in chains ( Carmona et al. 2011, fig. 16; Guiry & Guiry 2017). Bhosale et al. (2012), however, reported a single large dumbel shaped or ovoid carposporangium at the end of each gonimoblast filament (fig. 2 G) clearly showing a misidentification of their specimens. Their material is clearly referable to Lemanea manipurensis . The misidentification of Bhosale et al. (2012) was apparently followed by Singh & Gupta (2010; 2011; 2014), Gupta & Singh (2012) and later workers. Thus, the record of this species in India is doubtful.
