Audouinella hermannii (Roth) Duby
Taxonomic synonym: Audouinella violacea (Kutzing) Hamel
Das & Peters 1990, p.77, fig. 7; Rout & Gaur 1994, p. 72.
Distribution in India: Bihar (in a spring at Lupungutu, Chaibasa, Singhbhum district, Dec.); Meghalaya (Shillong, in a 3 rd order pristine forest stream, dominant in upstream during Apr. and less dominant down stream during Jul., between Jan. & Dec.).
Notes: Necchi et al. (1993b), Kumano (2002) and Guiry & Guiry (2017) treated Audouinella violacea as a taxonomic synonym of Audouinella hermannii (Roth) Duby. A species occurring in all biomes ( Sheath & Cole 1992), the record of this species in India, albeit notable, may be considered tentative until critical studies have been completed. Only monosporangia were recorded in the Indian specimens ( Das & Peters, 1990), while tetrasporangia, carpogonia and spermatangia are recorded frequently for specimens from other locations ( Necchi et al. 1993a).
