Shaji 2006, p. 275, figs 1–4.
Distribution in India: Kerala (in a river at Ithikarra, Kollam, Feb.).
Notes: This species is bluish (or bluish-green) with a single parietal plastid without pyrenoids. As judged from the conclusions (i.e., bluish or reddish color of the specimens of Zucchi & Necchi (2003), A. patelii most likely is a Chantransia stage of a macroscopic red alga growing in that area. According to Zucchi & Necchi (2003), only reddish colored Audouinella species represent true Audouinella species, which potentially produce monosporangia, tetrasporangia and sexual reproductive organs.
