Description: Cells pentagonal, more or less dorsoventrally compressed. The epitheca conical. The apical pore structure of Bʹ– type ( Toriumi & Dodge 1993). The epithecal plate pattern comprises seven precingular plates (7ʹʹ), four apical plates (4ʹ), three anterior intercalary plates (3a), 1ʹ plate – “meta”, 2a – “quadra”. The hypotheca notched, with two short slightly diverging antapical horns. The cingulum median, bordered. The sulcus broadens towards the antapex. Thecal plates reticulate, with small spines on the hypotheca. Dimensions: 60–90 μm long and 36–51 μm wide.
Distribution: Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea, Sea of Azov, Japan Sea ( Krakhmalnyi 2011). Data on the distribution of P. brochii are given from the GBIF.org (2022) ( Fig. 80 View FIGURES 77–85 ).
