Described by Czerniavsky from Sinus Novorossijsk, Black Sea coast of Russia, approximate coordinates 44.68°N 37.82°E (no type material identified in ZIN-RAS but possibly it is ZIN-RAS 11416 labeled as Protoschmidtia simplex View in CoL ). As proposed above this is a junior synonym of Haliclona caucasica ( Czerniavsky, 1880) .
