Type locality. Sicily, Palermo, Madonie, Isnello , Case Aculeia ( Fig. 166).

Diagnosis. A medium-sized species (length: 3.30–3.95 mm.) with stubby body (elytra length/width ratio: 1.50–1.54), oval elytra with dense imbricate silvery-brown scales here and there paler, belonging to the petrensis group. Within the species group, it is recognisable by elytra more convex on disc with less spatulate, recumbent (15°–30°) setae on declivity. Humeri rounded. Rostrum sub-conical to the sides with eyes small and convex. Pterygia inconspicuous. Sizes: pronotum (length: 0.75–0.90 mm, width: 0.85–1.00 mm, ratio 0.88–0.90), elytra (length: 2.15–2.50 mm, width: 1.40–1.65 mm, ratio 1.50–1.54).

Holotype. Female. Total length: 3.85 mm. Stubby body and elytra oval. Dorsal vestiture with dense imbricate silvery-brown scales here and there paler with metallic sheen. Rostrum clothed by silvery-brown scales, transverse (length/width ratio 0.65), sub-conical to the sides. Pterygia slightly protruding. Epistome small, inconspicuous and slightly concave. Mesorostrum concave, anteriorly with twelve thin, short, erect setae. Vertex wide and convex (vertex width / mesorostrum width: ratio 1.75) with many, clavate, recumbent setae. Interocular space with little visible fovea. Lateral, small, convex eyes protruding from outline of head. Antenna robust and short with recumbent, golden/silvery, widened setae. Antenna with ratio 0.80 (scape length: 0.80 mm, funicle length: 1.00 mm). Scape clubbed slightly robust than funicle, curved al basal third and progressively thickening towards apex. Funicle segments including club, relative lengths as follows: 10.5.4.3.3.3.3.14; segments 1–6 with widened setae; segments 4–7 pearl-shaped. Club twice wider than funicle, compact, fusiform with suture between first and second segment visible.

Pronotum clothed with silvery-brown scales here and there paler, sub-square (length: 0.85 mm, width: 0.95 mm, ratio: 0.90), slightly sub-conical but sides sinuate, wider at the basal third and as wide at base as its anterior margin, with short, little clavate, golden recumbent setae. Punctation usually covered by scales. Scutellum small and inconspicuous. Humeri rounded.

Elytra (length: 2.40 mm, width: 1.60 mm, ratio: 1.50) vaulted dorsally, oval, clothed with dense imbricate silvery-brown scales here and there paler, rounded on sides, wider at the middle, flat suture. Elytral declivity with spatulate setae, recumbent (15°–30°). Punctation of striae, shallow, rather catenulate and impressed. Interstriae with silvery, spatulate setae, recumbent.

Legs short and robust clothed by silvery-brown scales and with short, clavate, silvery setae. Femora clubbed. Protibia with three acute spines on inner edge, with evident mucro on inner apical angle. Protibia sinuate on inner edge, metatibia and mesotibia straight in side view.

Tarsal segment 1 short, conical; segment 2 short and transverse; segment 3 shallowly bilobed; all segments with widened golden setae. Onychium curved, robust and short.

Female genitalia. See Figures: spermatheca ( Fig. 84 View FIGURES 60 – 98 ), sternite VIII ( Fig. 123 View FIGURES 99 – 137 ). Genitalia were examined in nine specimens.

Paratype variability. All paratypes are females and differs only in size.

Distribution. See Fig. 140 View FIGURE 140 . Italian endemic. Known from Madonie Mountains range above 400 m a.s.l.

Etymology. Named from “Asinelli castrum” the Latin name of Isnello.

Ecology and Phenology. Collected by Berlese and Winkler extractors from soil obtained sifting the leaf litter on clay soil, of an olive grove in spring and automn, at 400–500 meters.

Collections in the other months gave negative results.

Main soil type. Vertic-Cambisol ( Rendzina ) (European Soil Data Centre; Panagos et al. 2012).

Reproduction. Probably parthenogenetic. Species known from thirteen females.
