Type material. Holotype ♂. PHILIPPINES, Talamban, Cebu City, Small forest behind University of San Carlos. , 16–18 August 1986, Gerd Alberti ( QM S22518 View Materials a) . Paratypes 1 ♀ allotype, same data as holotype ( QM S22518 View Materials b) .

Diagnosis. Phlogiellus raveni sp. nov. differs from other Phlogiellus species, except P. aper , P. brevipes , P. mutus , P. bundokalbo , P. watasei , P. moniqueverdezae , P. longipalpus , and Phlogiellus daweiensis sp. nov. in lacking a maxillary lyra in both males and females. Phlogiellus raveni sp. nov. differs from those of the alyrate species of Phlogiellus , in the different shape of the male palpal bulb and shape of the female spermathecae ( Figs 13 View FIGURE 13 , 17 View FIGURE 17 ).

Descriptions. Holotype Male. QLM S22518 View Materials a: coloration (in alcohol; Fig. 10a View FIGURE 10 ): carapace reddish brown, with short fine brown hair, lateral and posterior margin with curved brown bristles. Abdomen hirsute with pale brown hair. Palp and legs paler than carapace. Body length: with chelicerae 15.68; without chelicerae 13.60. Carapace ( Fig. 11a View FIGURE 11 ): 1.19 length to width (7.04 length, 5.92 width). Ocular tubercle: wider than long; width to length 1.80 (0.8 length, 144 width); clypeus absent. Eyes group: in rectangular shape on ocular tubercle; anterior eye row slightly procurved; posterior eye row recurved. AME> ALE> PLE> PME. Fovea straight, 3.92 apart to ocular tubercle; fovea width indistinct to ocular tubercle width. Labium ( Fig. 10b View FIGURE 10 , 11a View FIGURE 11 ): sub-rectangular; 1.55 width to length (0.88 length, 1.36 width); ventrally with black bristle and patch of cuspules on 1/3 of anterior part (ca. 100; <1 diameter apart); anterior margin concave with row of setae. Labiosternal groove distinct. Sternum ( Fig. 10b View FIGURE 10 ): ventrally with black bristles on peripheral area and fine hair uniformly; 1.05 length to width (3.20 length, 3.04 width). Sigilla: three-pairs; anterior pair indistinct close to sternal margin, opposite coxae I; median pair ovoid, <1 diameter from sternal margin, opposite coxae II; posterior pair ovoid, clearly bigger and slender than other pairs, ≥ 1 diameter from sternal margin, opposite coxae III. Maxillae ( Fig. 12 View FIGURE 12 ): ventrally with black bristle and patch of cuspule in proximal anterior corner (ca. 130; 2–3 diameters apart); prolaterally with rows of short stout setae above the suture and long thin setae on the area that lyra should occur, lyra absent. Chelicerae ( Fig. 13 View FIGURE 13 ): prolaterally with 9 promarginal teeth, ca. 40 mesoventral dentricles, intercheliceral peg absent; retrolaterally with rows of pseudostrikers (ca. 30) on ventral margin, lyra absent. Spinnerets: PMS 0.56 length; PLS 3.84 length (1.44+0.88+1.52). Palp and legs: measurements: pedipalp length: 9.36 (3.44+2.08+2.56+1.28), leg I: 21.04 (6.24+3.76+4.88+3.76+2.40), leg II: 17.60 (5.04+2.96+3.84+3.44+2.32), leg III: 15.04 (4.40+2.40+2.64+3.36+2.24), leg IV: 21.76 (6.00+2.88+4.80+5.36); palpal tibia incrassate, tapering distally, with line of glabrous area ventrally along distal half of tibia length; tibial spur entirely absent; paired tarsi claws and palpal claw with two small teeth; third claws on leg III–IV; tarsal weakness present as paler area on prolateral and retrolateral legs II–IV. Scopulae: entire in all legs and palp tarsi and metatarsi I–II; 2/3 from distal metatarsi III; and 1/2 from distal metatarsi IV. Scopulae division: undivided on leg I–II and metatarsi III; clearly divided with rows of setae on tarsi III–IV, undivided but possessed row of setae on metatarsi IV. Spines: absent on metatarsi I; metatarsi II with 2 dV; metatarsi III with 3 dV, and 2 dD and metatarsi IV with 3 dV and 2 dD. Genitalia ( Fig. 14 View FIGURE 14 ): subtegulum distinct; haematodoca well developed; tegulum tapering and partly concave; embolus short, overall tapered and further tapering to the tip; with distinct basal lobe and strong retrolateral keel; embolus tip slightly bent. Carapace ( Fig. 15 View FIGURE 15 ): 1.22 length to width (7.52 length, 6.16 width). Ocular tubercle: wider than long; width to length 1.38 (1.04 length, 1.44 width); clypeus absent. Eyes group: in rectangular shape on ocular tubercle; anterior eye row slightly procurved; posterior eye row recurved. ALE> AME> PLE> PME. Fovea: straight, 4.32 apart to ocular tubercle; fovea width indistinct to ocular tubercle width. Labium ( Figs 15b View FIGURE 15 , 16a View FIGURE 16 ): sub-rectangular; 1.75 width to length (0.96 length, 1.68 width); ventrally with black bristle and patch of cuspules on 1/3 of anterior part (ca. 200; <1 diameter apart); anterior margin with row of setae. Labiosternal groove distinct. Sternum ( Fig. 15b View FIGURE 15 ): ventrally with black bristles and fine hair; 1.00 length to width (3.60 length, 3.60 width). Sigilla: three-pairs; anterior pair indistinct, close to sternal margin, opposite to coxae I; median pair ovoid, <1 diameter from sternal margin, opposite to coxae II; posterior pair ovoid, clearly bigger and slender than other pair, ≥ 1 diameters from sternal margin, opposite to coxae III. Maxillae ( Fig. 16 View FIGURE 16 ): maxillary pro- cess well developed; ventrally with black bristles and patch of cuspules in proximal anterior corner (ca. 120; 2–3 diameters apart); prolaterally with rows of long black setae above suture and on area that lyra should occur, lyra absent. Chelicerae ( Fig. 17 View FIGURE 17 ): prolaterally with 11 promarginal teeth, ca. 40 small mesoventral denticles, intercheliceral pegs absent; retrolaterally with row of striker-like setae (ca. 40) on ventral margin, lyra absent. Spinnerets: PMS 0.80 length; PLS 4.24 length (1.36+1.20+1.68). Palp and legs: measurements: pedipalp length: 19.36 (5.68+3.60+4.24+3.52+2.32), leg I: 19.36 (5.68+3.60+4.24+3.52+3.32), leg II: 16.40 (4.80+3.20+3.36+3.20+1.84), leg III: 13.92 (3.92+2.40+2.40+3.20+2.00), leg IV: 19.12 (4.80+2.64+4.40+4.88+2.40); tibial spur absent in all legs, paired tarsi claws and palpal claw with two small teeth; third claw present only on leg IV; tarsal weakness present as crack on ventral of tarsi IV. Scopulae: entire in legs I–II and palp tarsi and metatarsi I–II; 1/2 from distal metatarsi III; and absenton tarsi III and leg IV (may be an artifact of old collection). Scopula division: undivided on leg II, metatarsi I and III tarsi I and metatarsi I and III), clearly divided with rows of setae on tarsi I. Spines: absent on metatarsi I; metatarsi II with 1 dV; metatarsi III with 3 dV and 2 dL and metatarsi IV with 3 dV. Genitalia ( Fig. 18 View FIGURE 18 ): unilobed but not fused, sclerotized from apex to base, each lobe with tapered base and slightly tapering before widening to tip.

Etymology. .—The new species is dedicated to Dr. Robert J. Raven, the senior curator ( Arachnida) at the Queensland Museum, Australia for his incalculable contribution to spider systematics.
