As highlighted above, the Algerian-Tunisian population known to date as Cantharis puncticollis is rather well separated at the aedeagic level ( Moscardini, 1967) from the Sicilian populations and therefore must be called by the first specific name available in the literature. It should be known as C. paulonotata .

Note. This species is endemic to Algeria and Tunisia, rarely collected and relatively unknown. In fact, for example, the Wittmer’s collection probably has a different species from Algeria named C. puncticollis compared to the specimens in Pic’s collection with the same name C. puncticollis . Before a more in-depth study, we can take as an example of the species the aedeagus drawings (not the text) present in Moscardini, which refers to the var. obscuripennis , a specimen that had been determined by Pic himself ( Moscardini 1967).
