A Palearctic species with a few records from the Oriental Zoogeographic Region, all of whose parasitic stages have been found on Erinaceomorpha : Erinaceidae , Lagomorpha : Leporidae and Ochotonidae , and Rodentia : Cricetidae , Muridae and Sciuridae . Adults alone have been collected from Mammalia (several orders), Accipitriformes : Accipitridae , Galliformes : Phasianidae, Otidiformes : Otididae , and Passeriformes : Alaudidae ; nymphs and larvae have been recovered from Rodentia : Dipodidae , and Passeriformes : Corvidae , Muscicapidae and Sylviidae . Rhipicephalus pumilio is a sporadic parasite of humans.

Note: Zahler et al. (1997) describe an identical DNA sequence in Rhipicephalus pumilio and Rhipicephalus rossicus and suggest that they may be conspecific. See also Rhipicephalus schulzei for its confusion with Rhipicephalus pumilio .
