An Afrotropical species whose adults are usually found on Artiodactyla : Bovidae . All parasitic stages have been recovered from Bovidae , Macroscelidea : Macroscelididae , and Lagomorpha : Leporidae . Adults alone have been collected from Mammalia (several orders), and Otidiformes: Otididae ; adults and larvae have been taken from artiodactyls ( Suidae ); and nymphs alone have been found on Carnivora : Viverridae . Rhipicephalus kochi is a very rare parasite of humans.

Note: Rhipicephalus kochi was confused with several species of Rhipicephalus until Clifford et al. (1983) redescribed the male and female and described the larva and nymph. Redescriptions of adults of Rhipicephalus kochi published prior to the study of Clifford et al. (1983) are excluded from the above lists, including the study of Hoogstraal (1956a), who referenced the descriptions of the larva and nymph of Rhipicephalus kochi as Rousselot (1953), but these alleged original descriptions of the immature stages of this species are not recognized by Clifford et al. (1983) or Walker et al. (2000).
