Note: morphological differentiation of Rhipicephalus hurti from Rhipicephalus jeanneli is difficult, and authors such as Walker (1974) and Walker et al. (2000) treat some tick records as Rhipicephalus hurti / jeanneli group. Matthysse and Colbo (1987) also point out that separating both species is a difficult task, while Elbl and Anastos (1966c) state that Rhipicephalus hurti possesses variable morphological characters. Walker et al. (2000) state that additional studies of Rhipicephalus hurti and Rhipicephalus jeanneli are needed in order to morphologically separate these species, especially in light of the fact that a number of specimens show mixed morphologies, possibly indicating the presence of another species in this group.
