M: Zumpt (1943 b, 1950), Santos Dias (1950a, under the name Rhipicephalus tendeiroi , a synonym of Rhipicephalus masseyi ), Elbl and Anastos (1966c), Walker et al. (2000)

F: Zumpt (1943b), Santos Dias (1950a, under the name Rhipicephalus tendeiroi ), Elbl and Anastos (1966c), Walker et al. (2000)

Note: Walker et al. (2000) discuss the considerable confusion attending identification of Rhipicephalus masseyi , chiefly due to misidentifications of the male, female and nymph in Theiler (1947). Camicas et al. (1998) list the nymph of Rhipicephalus masseyi as described, but Walker et al. (2000) also discuss this problem, concluding that this stage remains undescribed, a position with which we agree. See also Rhipicephalus maculatus for its confusion with the nymph of Rhipicephalus masseyi .
